An American citizen who is accused of causing a Herefordshire crash by dangerous driving has been told he will be extradited to the UK after he fled the country.

According to the BBC, 22-year-old Isac Calderon has been informed he will be extradited to the UK after losing an appeal in US courts.

Calderon was previously charged with causing injury by dangerous driving, after a crash in Shucknall.

Calderon, previously of Peterborough, is accused of causing serious injury to Worcestershire nurse, Elizabeth Donowho, who has said she was left with serious injuries and unable to walk for six weeks following the crash.

Ms Donowho, a mental health nurse, suffered multiple fractures in the crash – including both ankles, her sternum and her right hand.

Calderon is accused of causing the crash in July of last year, whilst he had been driving a Honda Accord on the A4103 from Pomona Lane to the C1148.

The 22-year old moved to the UK to pursue a contracted job “due to his security clearance with the Texas National Guard”, his father has said.

However, West Mercia Police previously told Ms Donowho that Calderon had been carrying out work “associated with the secret service” and working on matters “that might come under the Official Secrets Act”.

On Monday, Calderon was told that he was extraditable to the United Kingdom, due to the court finding there was "probable cause" he committed the offence.

The BBC reported that the judgement said: “It is hereby ordered that Isac Alejandro Calderon is committed to the custody of the United States Marshal, or his authorized representative, to be confined in an appropriate facility and to remain until he is surrendered to the United Kingdom pursuant to applicable provisions of the treaty and United States law.”

The US national left the UK on a flight to Texas back in November 2023 and subsequently failed to attend a UK court hearing scheduled for December 1 at Kidderminster Magistrates court.

A Home Office spokesperson told the BBC that it had been a long standing policy not to comment on extradition timings, and would not comment on Calderon's case.
