THE parents of “bright and bubbly little boy” have held a day themed around his passion for dinosaurs to raise money for the charity they created in his memory.

10-year-old Logan Kelly was diagnosed with an incurable diffuse intrinsic pontins glioma, a rare brain tumour only affecting children, in November 2022. “Children diagnosed with this type of tumour rarely survive a year after diagnosis,” said Logan’s mum, Lauren Henderson. “For Logan, it was six months”.

Logan “showed enormous amounts of love and care to the world around him,” and died on May 6, 2023, after going through intensive radiotherapy. Parents Lauren and Matt Henderson set up the Logansaurus Trust in honour of their son and to support other parents going through the grief of losing a child with a network of supportive and understanding peers.

A “huge dinosaur fan” with a dream “to create Jurassic Park,” it was only natural for Logan’s charity to be dino-themed. On August 17, Logan’s parents held ‘The Logansaurus Picnic’ at Marlbrook Primary School with activities for children like hook a duck, an egg race, colouring competitions, sensory play and a bouncy castle.

For the adults, the event offered racing whilst wearing an inflatable dino costume, a raffle, live music from the Slippermen band, and The Beefy Boys’ award-winning burgers. The Hereford-based burger specialists were among the businesses without whose support, the event couldn’t have happened.

The event raised a total of £2,000.00, split between The Logansaurus Trust and Acorns Children's Hospice who were “vital during Logan’s last few weeks” and still support Mr and Mrs Henderson after his passing.

Alongside co-founding the Logansaurus Trust, Mrs Henderson wrote a children’s book to help grieving children find closure. Email logansaurustrust@outlook.com or find the Logansaurus Facebook page to order a copy.

“The turn out for the event was incredible, it was wonderful to see the joy it gave children and I hope the adults had just as much fun. Thank you to everyone who attended, got involved and gave support,” said Mr and Mrs Henderson.
