A Herefordshire village primary school is getting “emergency” drainage work ahead of the start of term next week.
Up to £84,000 is being spent at Wellington primary school, between Hereford and Leominster, with up to £10,500 on top for professional fees.
The work requires closing the school toilets and surrounding area, according to Herefordshire Council’s record of its spending decision.

Without the work, “the school is at risk of not having a toilet facility in use for the start of the autumn term and incurring further maintenance requirements”, it added.
The council awarded the works contract to building contractor S C Joseph, based near Hereford, which is already carrying out work valued at £150,000 to address damp at the school.
“It would not be practical to have two separate contractors working in the same areas of the school site addressing associated damp works,” the council explained.
The school reopens on Wednesday September 4.
