A major road in Herefordshire was closed for part of last night due to a "serious" crash involving multiple vehicles.

West Mercia Police have said they were called to the "serious collision" involving three vehicles last night.

 West Midlands Ambulance Service have also said they attended the scene shortly after 11pm, after reports of a crash involving two cars and a van on the A49 from Queenswood to Dinmore.

A spokesperson for the ambulance service said: “Two ambulances and a paramedic officer attended the scene. Upon arrival we found two patients, a man and a woman who were the drivers of the cars.

“The woman was assessed and had sustained potentially serious injuries. She received treatment from ambulance staff at the scene and was conveyed to Hereford County Hospital under emergency blue light conditions for further treatment.

“The man was assessed and had sustained injuries not believed to be serious. He received treatment at the scene before being conveyed to Hereford County Hospital. The driver of the van did not require treatment from ambulance staff”.

Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service have also said that fire crews from Leominster Fire Station were called to make vehicles safe after a crash on the A49.

The crews made three vehicles safe which had been involved in the crash, and used an environmental grab pack was used for a fuel spill. The Fire Service have also said that a thermal imaging camera was used to check for hot spots.

The spokesperson for the fire service confirmed that four casualties, two male and two female, were handed over to the care of the ambulance service who attended along with police.

The A49 was closed in both directions for part of last night whilst the incident was ongoing, and crews attend the scene. The Fire Service spokesperson said that the incident was then marked as pending closure at 00:49.
