A car crashed into a Ledbury Methodist church last night (August 28), causing damage to the doorway and brickwork, in a scene described as like a "bomb going off".
West Mercia Police have said they were called to the crash in Bye Street in the Herefordshire market town shortly after 6.30pm last night, after a crash involving two vehicles, one of which had crashed into the wall of the church.
No injuries were reported, however the street was closed between the clock tower and the fire station.
A spokesperson for the fire service said: “Two Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service crews – one each from Ledbury and Hereford Fire Stations – were called at 18:37 on 28 August to an RTC into a building in Bye Street, Ledbury.
"The incident involved two vehicles, one of which collided with a church building, causing damage to the doorway and surrounding brickwork.
“Fire service personnel made the vehicles safe and closed the road. Two casualties were advised to attend hospital. Police also attended. The incident was marked as pending closure at 21:14”.
Councillor Ewen Sinclair said that at the time of the crash, people had been inside the Methodist church, and they had described the moment the car collided into the building as like a "bomb going off”.
