A Ledbury Methodist church has spoken out following a dramatic car crash into the building on Wednesday (August 28).

On a statement on their Facebook, the local Methodist church said: “Thank you folks of Ledbury, for your care and understanding today after the car crash last night.

“The embedded car has now been removed, the church shored up, and the council are due to come and re-open the road.

“It was not possible to remove the car until the wall could be shored up, and a big thank you to Dean from Nicholas Builders for dropping everything he was doing and working so hard and fast to make the building safe.

“Thank you too, to all who stopped or came to see us to check we and the drivers were ok, As far as we know, there were only minor injuries. We have asked all our church members to pray for the drivers and the passenger of the taxi.

“Church will be open on Sunday, and a thank you to the advice from Building Control and the Fire Officer from Ledbury Fire Station.

“We are insured and hope to get the repairs done as soon as possible. Later today the rear door will be boarded around to ensure the safety of those walking past”.

West Mercia Police have said they were called to the crash in Bye Street in the Herefordshire market town following a crash involving two vehicles, one of which had crashed into the wall of the church.

Councillor Ewen Sinclair said that at the time of the crash, people had been inside the Methodist church, and they had described the moment the car collided into the building as like a "bomb going off”.

Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service also attended the scene at the market town, with crews ensuring the vehicles involved were made safe, and that the road was closed.
