A "DELIBERATE" fire in a Hereford beauty spot is being treated as criminal damage, police have said.

The emergency services attended Belmont Country Park after the alarm was raised about the fire at about 8.30pm on Friday (August 30).

West Mercia Police said the incident is being treated as criminal damage, but no arrests have been made at this time.

A spokesperson said: "We received a call on Friday evening from the fire service reporting a bin being on fire at Belmont Country Park. It is being treated as criminal damage. No arrests have been made."

Firefighters from Hereford who were called to the scene extinguished the fire using a bucket of water.

Police did not attend the incident but were alerted by the fire service due to "deliberate ignition", a spokesperson said.

The ambulance service was also not required to attend as there were no casualties and no one was injured.
