Part of an MOT garage site in rural Herefordshire is to become a builder’s yard.

According to a planning application by Kingstone-based Ben Davies Design and Build, parts of Mill Garage at Tram Inn, Allensmore southwest of Hereford will now be used for parking of plant and equipment such as diggers and trailers.

An existing “spray booth” for re-spraying cars after repair “will be retained for spraying joinery items” including doors and windows, while a vehicle repair workshop will be kept as a joinery workshop, and the office will retain the same function.

“The remainder of the site will be used for the storage of non-hazardous building materials such as surplus bricks, blocks, roofing slates etc,” the application adds. Nothing will be sold at the site.

Planning officer Tracey Meachen acknowledged that the character of the site “may change to a more industrial appearance”, but this would be “within the setting of a mixed-use area which has a number of industrial uses on other sites nearby”.

With no objection from the technical consultees, the parish council or the public, the application was approved.

Formerly also a car showroom, Mill Garage had received an accumulated rating of 4.8 from 33 reviews on Google, with many customers praising its workmanship and service.
