A spokesperson for the Trust said: “We will be undertaking extensive refurbishment of the emergency department (ED) at Hereford County Hospital in order to improve the facilities, from September 6 for a three-week period.

“During this period of refurbishment, the emergency department entrance, reception and waiting room will remain unaffected and temporary signage will be in place to ensure patients are directed to the appropriate ED service.

“Whilst overall capacity will not be impacted, emergency department services will be relocated to nearby areas within the ground floor of Hereford County Hospital.  Also, circulating spaces in the temporary location will restrict the number of people who can accompany patients into the department.

“It is important that people do not attend the emergency department unless absolutely necessary, consider using NHS 111, GP, or a pharmacy for advice and call 999 if they have a life-threatening condition.

“We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause”.

Herefordshire South MP Jesse Norman commented on the recent changes, saying: “I and my office work very closely with patients at all times, and will be keeping a close eye on this process through to completion”.
