UPDATE, 9am: Tragic update issued after man hit by lorry on Herefordshire main road
NATIONAL Highways has issued an update this morning after a "very serious" crash closed the A40 in Herefordshire.
The road was closed both ways, with queueing traffic due to a crash between the Goodrich turn off and the Symonds Yat turn off yesterday evening (September 4).

National Highways said at 7pm on Wednesday that the road was closed due to a "very serious" crash and that information from the scene indicated that the road would be closed for a number of hours in order to allow West Mercia Police to carry out investigations.

Diversion routes were put in place between Ross-on-Wye and Whitchurch while emergency services continued their work at the scene.
Firefighters from Whitchurch and Ross-on-Wye, as well as the ambulance service, joined police at the scene.
The road remained closed overnight, but National Highways confirmed at 5am this morning that the road has now reopened in both directions.
