PASSERS-BY rushed to help care for a man who was hit by a lorry in a fatal crash.
The man was hit by a lorry on the A40 in Whitchurch, near Ross-on-Wye, at around 5.30pm last night (September 4).
Bystanders helped to care for him, but when the ambulance service arrived it became clear nothing could be done to save him, and sadly he was pronounced dead at the scene.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "Upon arrival, we found a man who was a pedestrian being cared for by bystanders.
"Unfortunately, nothing more could be done to save him and he was confirmed deceased by staff at the scene.
"The driver of the lorry did not require treatment from ambulance staff."
The A40 was initially closed westbound, with National Highways later confirming that the entire road was closed in both directions, with diversions in place, to allow for police investigation work to take place after the "very serious" incident.
Police first confirmed that the man had died in a statement earlier today (September 5).
