A new self-service produce shop has opened in Herefordshire, but this time not on a farm, but in a high street.

The Egg Hut, which was established in Bredenbury in 2022, has taken on a unit in the middle of Bromyard

The new shop allows customers to self-service their own free-range eggs, as well as other local farm produce, including jams, homemade chutneys, and pavlovas.

The owner of the business, Sam Sayce, said that although there may be many farm vending machines out there, as far as they know they are the first one that's on a high street.

"We've had a farm vending machine for around two years but have only recently moved to Bromyard from Bredenbury.

"We saw the shop for sale and we thought it would be a fantastic opportunity to provide a community asset and also to help local people reduce their food miles whilst also helping us achieve a better price for our eggs," he said.

The site was previously occupied  by David James Jewellers,  which closed in the summer of 2023, as the owners decided to embark on their retirement.

In 2021, the owners had a brush with fame. After supplying a small amount of eggs to Mcdonalds, the farm featured on one of the fast-food giants adverts, showcasing the beautiful scenery where their chickens roam.
