Police are objecting to a central Hereford takeaway with a previous history of disorder being allowed to once again open until 3.30am.
Mohammed Abdussalam Gabaj had applied for a licence to serve hot food till the earlier hours at Flames, a new business at 59A Commercial Road.
Under the previous operator, the premises had its late licence revoked in February, “following an incident of disorder which included associates of the former business and issues with the performance of the door staff”, his application says.

Objecting to his application, West Mercia Police said it would “undermine the objective of the prevention of crime and disorder due to the premises historically being associated with and attracting incidents in connection with night-time disorder”.

The unnamed police licensing officer adds: “Since the premises have not been operating past 23:00hrs [since February], West Mercia Police have seen a decrease of disorder in and around the premises.”
The police “are willing to negotiate with the applicant over an earlier terminal hour”, their submission says.

Due to its objection, the decision on whether to grant the late licence has been passed to Herefordshire Council’s licensing sub-committee of councillors, who will make the call this Thursday (September 19).
Under the name Munchies, the previous late-night licence, in operation from May 2013 until February, allowed the premises to serve hot food until 3.30am seven days a week.
It appears Flames Pizza & Kebab House is continuing the previous takeaway’s offer of kebabs, pizza, burgers and chicken.
