I COMPLETELY agree with Dr Gray concerning his points on the VAT being placed on independent education (Letters, September 12).
These schools are very important to the local economy and education system. You only have to delve into the historical facts about the performance of the pupils who have been through an independent school, and in particular Hereford Cathedral School, to see that the education here is first class and the opportunities that arise through these schools are unrivalled.

I find it unbelievable that parents who aspire to want the very best for their children, and are prepared to put their hands in the pocket to pay for it, are now being required to pay 20 per cent more towards it.

You can send a letter to the editor to have your say by clicking here.
Letters should not exceed 250 words and local issues take precedence.
Just imagine, as Dr Gray points out, how much more strain there would be on the traditional education establishments if independent schools didn’t exist!
This is very much a money-grabbing exercise by the Government as they continue to decimate anyone who may have aspirations for their children. We need to encourage aspiration not decimate it.
