Progress is being made to a Herefordshire High Street that has seen MONTHS of disruption.

Leominster High Street has seen some of the many barriers removed today, as work progresses around the market town, as part of the Heritage Action Zone Scheme.

Work began in May, with some of the major projects including enhanced surfacing, improving paving, wider pavements and raised tables at the major junctions, in order to make it safer and more accessible for pedestrians. Considerable work has also been carried out in Corn Square.

The council gave a recent update on the on-going works, saying that unfortunately not all deadlines would be met: "Herefordshire Council recognise the inconvenience Leominster will see as result of the above and we have acted to mitigate the impact as much as possible.

"As a result, all of the work to the High Street, Corn Street, Victoria Street and Iron Cross will be complete within the existing project timescales by the end of September.

"This means that only the work to Corn Square will remain unfinished and this work will continue until the end of November".

Gaynor Lewin, Owner of the Shopping in Leominster Facebook page, said: "We have half of High Street open’ish… the pedestrian barriers are down.

"The other half of High Street is still under works.

"After 4 months of very restricted access to shops, it’s a relief to have the barriers gone and for customers to be able to move around more freely."
