CARS have been spotted flouting a road closure in Hereford as floods hit the county.

The busy Holme Lacy road linking Rotherwas with the A49 Ross Road in Hereford has been closed this afternoon (September 23) after heavy rain caused flooding under the railway bridge.

The spot regularly falls victim to flooding, and is often one of the first to close in the city.

But drivers have been spotted flouting the road closure to wade through the flood, despite road closure signs being put in place by Herefordshire Council's roads contractors.

The signs were erected at around 12.30pm today, but within minutes of the road workers leaving the area, cars were already making their way through the flood.

Herefordshire has been hit by heavy rain today, after a very wet weekend, with a yellow weather warning for rain in force for the county for the whole day.

An amber weather warning that was previously in force for Hereford, Ledbury, Ross-on-Wye, Leominster, and Bromyard has been removed due to updated information, the Met Office said.

There are currently two flood alerts in force in the county, although the river Wye is at present well below danger levels. The two flood alerts in force are for the rivers Leadon and Frome.
