Fire crews descended on a Herefordshire village last night, after a blaze broke out in a house.

Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service crews, from Ewyas Harold and Hereford fire stations were called at 8.50 pm last night (September 26) after a blaze broke out in a house in Marlas.

A spokesperson for the service said that a small fire, which involved a bag left on a cooker, had been extinguished before the arrival of the service.

One casualty suffered from smoke inhalation and was handed over to the care of the ambulance service, before the incident was closed at around 10.10pm.

It was a busy night for the fire service, with crews also being called to battle flood waters in the county, in order to save stranded cars.

In two separate incidents, crew from Leominster fire station including their boat crew from Hereford and Worcester, and their drone service from Ledbury,were called at around 6pm last night, to a vehicle in water in Upper Hill.

Later yesterday evening, at around 10pm, crews from Eardisley and Peterchurch were called after a vehicle had become stuck in water on the B4352 in Bredwardine.
