A DRUG found in the possession of a Hereford man has been ordered to be destroyed by a court.

Jamie Buckland entered a guilty plea to one count of possessing a controlled drug when he appeared before magistrates in Hereford earlier this month.

The court heard from prosecutor Camila Toscano that the 20-year-old had been caught in possession of a quantity of controlled class B drug ketamine in Hereford’s West Street on July 10, in contravention of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971.

He also admitted failing to comply with a section 35 direction excluding him from Hereford city centre on the same date.

Buckland, who was represented at the hearing by defence solicitor Matt Lewis and who is of St Owen Gate, Hereford, was handed a 12-month conditional discharge, with magistrates saying they had taken his guilty plea into account when imposing the penalty.

The drug was ordered to be forfeited and destroyed, while Buckland was ordered to pay prosecution costs of £85 and a £26 victim surcharge, which is used to help fund services supporting victims of crime.
