A Herefordshire artist has been given a solo exhibition in the cathedral, with the project celebrating the unique materials of the building.
Linda Pitcher, a mature third-year student and ceramic artist studying at Hereford College of Arts, is currently displaying her work in the building, which even contains some of the historic original materials within the ceramics.
The exhibition, titled ‘Inclusion', has been created specifically for the historic building, with each porcelain vessel carefully hand-crafted to form character and represent uniqueness.
The handcrafted glazes include the Hereford Cathedral red sandstone to "represent the Lord’s House", combined with exquisite 24-carat gold rims to "signify the divine presence of God".
Ms Pitcher creates the unique pieces from her Herefordshire home studio, with the enjoyment of the crafting process and technical challenges of wheel-thrown porcelain driving her practice.
The exhibition, which will remain in the cathedral's vestry until October 3, includes information and examples of the making process of the handcrafted porcelain vessels.
