I am writing in response to a letter published on September 14 regarding MPs taking a pay cut due to their scrapping of the winter fuel payment.

Although I'm unsure of the reality of MPs taking a pay cut to save the payment (we can only dream) I am equally as disgusted as the writer on the issue.

We all know a good portion of our county's demographic are pensioners, and I live in fear that this winter more than we could ever imagine will be plunged into fuel poverty. As recently reported by yourselves, it's estimated that in the county alone around 42,145, or 91.4 per cent have lost their much-needed energy payment.

As the letter writer said, should we have a harsh winter this year there will be many pensioners who will struggle to maintain their rising bills, along with rising costs of groceries and many other essentials. I argue that harsh winter or not, many Herefordshire pensioners will feel the strain, as the energy cap rises once again.

I understand that Sir Keir has a huge financial black hole to fill, but the fact some of our most vulnerable in the country are being made to pay the price is unthinkable.
