A HEREFORDSHIRE road previously closed for a year after a landslide thought to have been caused by an underground spring is set to close again.

The B4224 will be closed from Fiddlers Green to The Moors, according to a notice of intention to make a temporary road closure order published by Herefordshire Council.

The closure is required due to drainage works and the likelihood of danger to the public while works are taking place, the notice said.

It will come into force on October 28, but drivers need not panic, as the works are expected to be completed within four nights.

A diversion will be in place via the B4224, A438, A4172, A449, and B4224 and vice versa.

The B4224 was previously closed for more than 12 months after suffering major damage during Storm Dennis in February 2020, when it collapsed in two places.

The damage left the road closed between Fiddler’s Green and Fownhope.

At the time Mairead Lane, head of infrastructure delivery at Herefordshire Council, said the work needed to repair and safely reopen the road had been "complex and substantial", with elements including a retaining wall requiring an "incredible amount of work".

Herefordshire Council said in August that year that the cost of reinstating the road and repairing the collapsed retaining wall was expected to be £2,565,000.

The road finally reopened to traffic in March 2021, to applause from locals.
