CONSTRUCTION has been temporarily halted on a Hereford restoration project.

Friends of Castle Green (FoCG), who have been restoring Castle Green's riverside pavilion, have released a statement saying that they have been experiencing "some issues" with the contracted building company, and have decided to work with a new supplier.

The community interest company released the statement after some had spotted that work appeared to have stopped on the landmark.

"In consultation with the Stronger Hereford Board, we will shortly be appointing a new contractor to complete the restoration of the building.

"We hope to have the Pavilion reopen and fully restored by Spring 2025. This represents a slight delay to our original timescales, but the final result will be worth the wait!"

The pavilion is undergoing the transformation after it received £1.5 million funding from Stronger Hereford, a series of projects transforming the city thanks to a £22.4 million grant from the Government’s Towns Fund.

The grade II listed Georgian building has been run by the community interest company since 2018. The renovation aims to reflect the history of the building as well as turn it into a “sustainable community asset”.

The restored building, which has previously been used for community groups including youth drama and music lessons, will offer community meeting spaces and become a new home for Hereford Youth Canoe Centre.
