A man has sustained serious injuries following an attack in Hereford city centre.

A cordon was in place across Moorfield Street in Hereford yesterday afternoon (October 9) after police and paramedics raced to the scene at 4.25pm.

West Mercia Police have said that following the "serious assault" a man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service has now said that one of the men has sustained serious injuries.

“We were called to reports of a stabbing at a private address on Moorfield Street, Hereford at 4.24pm.

"We sent two ambulances, a paramedic officer, a BASICS emergency doctor and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Strensham to the scene.

"On arrival crews found two patients. The first patient, a man, had sustained serious injuries and received trauma care before being conveyed by land ambulance to hospital.

"The second patient, also a man, was treated for potentially serious injuries and conveyed by land ambulance to hospital.”

The police cordon was put in place in the street, which is near the Old Market shopping centre, after officers were called to reports that two men had sustained knife injuries at a property in the street.

Detective inspector Jordan Baker said last night that officers understand locals may be concerned by the incident, but that police believe it to have been an isolated incident.

"Officers including firearms officers swiftly attended the scene and a man has been arrested," DI Baker said.

A large police presence was at the scene for a number of hours as officers remained on scene while enquiries continued.
