RISING water levels have closed Herefordshire schools today, with parents warned that it is too dangerous to enter the area.

In a notice to parents shared on social media, a spokesperson for Fairfield High School in Peterchurch said it is now unsafe to travel into the Peterchurch area due to increasing water levels.

"For this reason we regret to inform all parents and carers that the school will now be closed to prevent anyone making any unnecessary journeys," the spokesperson said.

"We will keep you all posted with any updates via social media and the school website about school reopening tomorrow."

Fairfield High School is closed due to rising water levels making travel unsafe

Michaelchurch Escley Primary School is closed due to dangerous driving conditions, impassable roads, and staff being unable to safely get to school.

Peterchurch Primary School is closed today due to very badly flooded roads.

There is currently a flood warning in force for the Dulas Brook in Ewyas Harold, while flood alerts are in force for the rivers Arrow, Frome, and Leadon in Herefordshire.

Longtown Community Primary School is closed today, Wednesday October 16, due to adverse weather conditions.

"As there is a substantial amount of water on the surrounding roads, we have made the decision to close the school to ensure the safety of our pupils and all those travelling to and from our rural site," a spokesperson said.

Clifford Primary School is closed with immediate effect due to adverse weather. Please collect your children. A small staff will remain on site until all children have left. This is for staff and child safety and also due to school dinners being unable to deliver today.
