Two more candidates have thrown their hats into the ring to fill the council seat vacated by Herefordshire’s new MP Ellie Chowns.

Three candidates had previously been confirmed in the Bishops Frome & Cradley ward byelection, due to be held on Thursday November 7.

But following the cut-off date of last Friday (October 11) for candidates to enter the contest, two more have joined the field.

Standing for the Liberal Democrats, Nicki West is a local businesswoman who is particularly concerned about the local impact of the axing of winter fuel payments to pensioners and the impact this could have on health services.

Herefordshire native Dave James will meanwhile stand for Reform UK. He says he is is “dismayed with the current tax, spend and waste model and the constant decline in our local infrastructure and public services”, and backs Reform UK's vision for smaller, more efficient and accountable government.

They complete a five-strong list of candidates, which now reads alphabetically in full:

  • Mark Franklin (Conservative)
  • Sandy Grenar (Labour)
  • Dave James (Reform UK)
  • Rebecca Tully (Green)
  • Nicki West (Liberal Democrats)

Polling will be held in the village halls of Bishops Frome, Cradley, Stanford Bishop and Storridge between 7am and 10pm on November 7.

The largely rural ward extends from south of Bromyard to the Worcestershire border near Malvern.
