PLANS have been revealed for a new Hereford library and learning space, with designs submitted for the curated space.

A recent planning application submitted to Herefordshire council, seeks consent to undertake necessary historic repairs, both internally and externally, in order to locate a public library within the assembly room in the Grade II listed building.

The application stated that the approach to the design of the Library & Learning Centre aims to create a sense of place that pulls the building to the centre of its "community, moving beyond traditional library expectations, towards the idea of a cultural hub that is welcoming, creative, relevant, useable and connected".

The plans suggest that visitors would be welcomed into a "Library world", allowing a unique opportunity to create a purpose-built library in the former Assembly Hall space. The application suggests the space would create an atmosphere for people to engage in different activities, and have a "living room feel", with a variety of informal seating, study, and engagement areas.

The site would also include a "community digital lounge", hosting six fitted terminals and free seating and workstations for those wishing to work from their own devices, along with a children's area and meeting pods nearby.

The lounge area would be designed to support co-working and be a safe and welcoming space for the community to access their digital needs.

The application stated that the design of the new facility would help to "break down barriers, be inclusive and welcoming to all, and be able to flex to the changing needs of its residents".
