A stalled scheme to provide over 100 affordable new homes for Hereford is finally back on track.

Social housing provider Stonewater’s College Road development at the site of a former tile factory to the north of the city was halted over a year ago, after contractor Ilke Homes, which was to supply and install the 120 prefabricated modular homes, went into administration.

Stonewater has now announced it has entered into a partnership with Newport-based Edenstone Homes, which has over 20 years of experience and has built 300 homes in the Herefordshire area, to finish the job.

RELATED NEWS:

“Edenstone’s work will first focus on the most complete homes, so customers can move in as quickly as possible,” Stonewater said in a statement.

With high energy efficiency, these will be made available local for shared ownership and affordable rent tenures.

Stonewater’s regional development director Matthew Crucefix said: “It’s exciting to see work recommencing on site, moving one step closer to delivering the much-needed 120 affordable homes for local people in Hereford.

OTHER NEWS:

“After a period of delay, we hope to welcome customers into their new homes as soon as possible”.

Edenstone Group chief executive Glyn Mabey added: “We’re delighted to be partnering with Stonewater on this project and we hope it marks the beginning of many successful collaborations.”

Stonewater faced a further headache this spring, when Tricas Construction of Bromsgrove, its chosen developer of a 90-home estate in Clehonger to the west of Hereford, also went bust before construction was complete.
