A HEREFORDSHIRE rescue centre has spoken out after one of its dogs was left with brain damage after an attack in a Herefordshire town.

Herefordshire and Worcestershire Animal Rescue Centre published a Facebook post today (October 23) explaining that a dog that has been staying with them, Mia has been subject to the attack, which involved a man kicking her in the head.

"Mia was brutally attacked in the Leominster area of Herefordshire sometime in September we believe, very limited information had been received initially, local police are investigating this but as there is very little information known about the incident, we are needing anyone with any information to please report it.

"We have been sharing updates about MIA over the past few weeks, she arrived with us as a stray in very poor condition and with very odd behaviours. Since then Mia has undergone surgery to amputate a large section of her tail as she was constantly spinning in circles and attacking it.

"Mia has made a good progress overall but sadly, other obsessive behaviours have presented themselves, Mia now uncontrollably scratches her body, even anti-itch medication doesn’t seem to be helping so we are managing this the best we can with distractions and keeping her comfortable.

"Mia has a long way to go with her rehabilitation but we are keeping everything crossed that we can get her through this."

West Mercia police launched an appeal yesterday after the attack, which took place sometime in September, when a man was seen walking a dog on the High Street in Leominster. The man became tangled in the lead and fell to the ground.

He then began to kick the dog in the head before being pulled away by a member of the public. The man left the area leaving the dog. The force added that since the incident the dog was now in the care of a rescue centre.

Officers are aware of a group of girls who witnessed the attack and ask them to contact the police. They were not involved in the incident but may have information that may help.
