Officers are carrying out enquiries, including viewing CCTV and have identified three men who could be key witnesses.
It is believed they were in the area at the time and may be able to provide information which can help police with their enquiries, a spokesperson for West Mercia Police said.
Officers remain in the area providing reassurance to the local community.
Inspector Ben Pearson said: “We are content that we are not looking to arrest or identify any other suspects.
"We now are appealing directly to three men who have been seen on CCTV walking through the cathedral grounds and speaking to both people involved.
