This is a reader's letter published in the Hereford Times on November 7.
I AM writing with reference to the letter in the Hereford Times of October 24 from Gregory Cohen entitled “Waste plans”.
I am a PhD water scientist and citizen science water tester volunteer with some knowledge of the many processes described in the various submissions by Mr Layton and also have no commercial interest in the planning application.

I use the word “described” quite loosely because it is virtually impossible to fully understand the nutrient (phosphate and nitrate) removal and separation processes as they are presented in the proposal.
Many claims are unjustified, unsubstantiated and rely on unproven technology.
This, combined with a number of contradictions and unfounded reliance of the various stages, means that it isn’t possible to have any degree of confidence in the claims and commitments.
For a detailed analysis of these processes, as far as is possible given the abovementioned shortcomings, please see my objections on the relevant Herefordshire County Council planning department webpage for application number P222728/N.
What are your thoughts?
You can send a letter to the editor to have your say by clicking here.
Letters should not exceed 250 words and local issues take precedence.
Therefore, my conclusion is that this application must not be approved.
I, for one, don’t want an unproven research facility in rural Herefordshire, let alone a wastewater treatment plant and power station.
Incidentally, the planning application states that only four low-skilled workers are all that is required to run this plant with process and performance integrity.
