ROAD calming measures will not be coming to one Herefordshire village... despite fears over speeding drivers.

Draft minutes from a recent meeting of Stretton Sugwas Parish Council revealed that while fears have been raised over speeding in the village, a recent speed survey had not revealed enough evidence of speeding to warrant road calming measures.

Concerns had been raised over the safety of crossing the A438 from around the Breinton turning to the other Stretton Sugwas side to walk children to school, the minutes said.

These had been shared at a recent site meeting with the parish council, locals, ward councillor, and representatives from the Road Safety Partnership and Herefordshire Council's highways department, the minutes said.

But, they revealed, highways representatives had said that the pavement did not have enough width to allow a buggy or mobility scooter to turn around and manoeuvre into a position to cross the road.

The pavement could not be widened due to a boundary wall belonging to a private home, and so a crossing is unlikely to be considered.

Councillor Garnet Creswell proposed that the clerk write to the council's highways department to ask for signs to be considered.
