A FAMILY FAVOURITE animal centre has gained a place as a finalist for local tourism awards.

The Small Breeds Farm Park in Kington has been named a finalist in the Visit Herefordshire Tourism Awards' Visitor Attraction of the Year category.

Opening in 1991, the farm park is now home to a range of animals, including small animals such as guinea pigs and degus, and larger creatures such as goats and alpacas.

The animal kingdom is also home to an Owl Centre, housing one of the largest and most important collections of owls in Europe.

The popular Herefordshire tourist attraction was taken over in 2022 by young local couple Ella Pillidge and Lewis Jones.

The couple have since made it their own, including rebranding with a new logo and refurbishing a tea room which now offers a more extensive menu.

Speaking of the award, Ms Pillidge said: "We were over the moon when we had the email saying we were finalists, the team have worked so hard this year to try and make it an experience people remember.

"Having only run the farm for nearly three years we are so excited to have been selected.

"We have big plans for the future, but we are so glad people love it the way it is now and hopefully will return to see our developments down the line."

The farm is open to customers seven days a week, with customers able to visit the on-site tea room or bring their own picnic for some light lunch.
