THE Courtyard in Hereford is in the final for an exciting tourism award, recognising its commitment to making the venue and its offerings accessible and inclusive.
The theatre in Edgar Street is up for the accessible and inclusive tourism award, recognising its efforts to make the Courtyard as enjoyable as possible for everyone.
During October half term, a circus skills workshop was held for those with special educational needs or disabilities.
This was one of many of the Courtyard's events for those with a variety of access needs, including audio described, signed, dementia friendly and relaxed performances, screenings and workshops.
The circus workshop was run by the Courtyard's inclusive team with the support of the city council. These events are open to everyone, but are specifically designed for young people with special educational needs and/or disabilities, ensuring a joyful and inclusive experience for everyone.
Earlier this year, with support from Beefy Boys, the Courtyard also launched Joy Club, Hereford’s inclusive adult rave for adults with learning disabilities.
Recently, a brand new changing places at the Courtyard was installed, with accessible facilities allowing everyone to enjoy the venue comfortable. The Courtyard is now a more inclusive venue for wheelchair users, those with bowel control problems, learning disabilities, autism, muscle wasting conditions, spina bifida, dementia and other disabilities, says marketing officer Ruby Thorogood.
Ms Thorogood added: "We are absolutely delighted to be finalists in the Visit Herefordshire tourism awards. The Courtyard strives to be an accessible and inclusive venue and to have our work recognised in this way is a real honour."
