A NEW dog exercise field could be coming to land on the edge of Hereford.

A planning application for a change of use submitted to Herefordshire Council reveals that applicant Mr P Gethling Lewis wants to use land at New House Farm Barn in Grafton Lane, to the south of the city, as a dog exercise and training area.

The change of use would see part of a stable block, manege, and field used as a dog exercise and training area for two years, the application said.

A covering letter submitted with the application said the site lies next to buildings already used for a range of rural business activities and that vehicular access would be via an existing "wide and shared" access.

Up to eight customers a day would exercise their dogs in the field between 9am and 5pm, the letter said, with "modest" additional light traffic movements and no visual or landscape effects.

Letters should not exceed 250 words and local issues take precedence.

Three stable boxes would be used for storage purposes, while a general rubbish bin and a dog bin would be placed at the field entrance, with two further dog bins placed around the site boundaries. These bins would be emptied to a wheelie bin next to the stables daily and the refuse collected by a specialist handler monthly, the letter said.

The letter said the plans would "help diversify the rural economy" and that its scale would not generate traffic that could not be accommodated on local roads.

Comments on the application are open until December 4.
