AN AIRCRAFT rarely spotted in Herefordshire's skies has been seen making its way over the county this morning.

The bright green Agusta Westland helicopter G-CPTZ made its way over the city at around 11.30am today (November 14) after departing from Wolverhampton. It has since passed over Wales and is heading towards Devon and Cornwall.

The helicopter is a children's air ambulance, and operates a lifesaving transfer service for critically ill babies and children.

When a child is too sick to travel, the service can fly medical teams and bespoke equipment to them from across the UK, turning their local hospital into a specialist centre.

The children's air ambulances can complete journeys four times faster than those taken by road, reducing the risk of further complications and helping to save lives.

According to the Air Ambulance Service, the Children's Air Ambulance has flown more than 1,000 missions, at a cost of around £3,600 per mission.
