A commemorative Sherlock Holmes coin has gone on sale in Hereford for a staggering price.
The Herefordshire-based. anonymous seller has listed the silver 50p on popular online selling platform eBay, for £8000.
In 2019, the Royal Mint announced plans to create the coin to commemorate 160 years since the birth of the character’s creator – Sir Arthur Conan Doyle – who was born on May 22, 1859.
The sleuth’s profile, complete with pipe and deerstalker hat, appears on the coin, surrounded by the names of his most popular adventures.

Coin designer Stephen Raw chose to create a design that requires a magnifying glass to read the names of these famous cases, hoping to bring out the “inner detective” of anyone who finds the coin in their change.
In the description of the listing, the seller describes the item as a "must-have" for any fan or collector, adding that it could make the perfect addition to any collection of British coins.
"Its value is sure to appreciate over time. Don't miss your chance to own a piece of British history with this stunning Sherlock Holmes 50p coin," it adds.
The collection of coins was first introduced by Sajid Javid in 2020, to mark Britain's departure from the EU, bearing the inscription “Peace, prosperity and friendship with all nations” and the date of January 31.
