A POPULAR pub near the Herefordshire border will be closed over the coming days following the death of its landlord, who was aged just 42.

The Royal Oak in Broadwas, around eight miles from the Herefordshire town of Bromyard, announced the tragic news on its social media today (November 22).

A spokesperson for the pub said: "It has been a very difficult few days and with deep regret we have to inform you that the owner of the Royal Oak Broadwas, Matt Fisher, sadly passed away on November 20 at the age of just 42.

"He has owned the pub for 13 years and with his hard work he has developed it into a popular eatery, which is also known for its carvery.

"As you can imagine this is a very upsetting time for all the family, friends and staff. The pub will be closed due to this devastating news for people to grieve and take the time to digest what has happened and what will be the next steps.

"At this moment in time we are unable to resume trading due to legal circumstances. We regretfully have to cancel tables booked in with us within the next few days, and then take time to assess the situation as to where we go from here.

"This is a very upsetting time for us and we will do our best to be in touch with bookings and what will happen next."
