A TRACTOR driver has been arrested after he was filmed driving through the deep floodwater in Tenbury, sending enormous waves crashing into businesses in Teme Street on Sunday, with many taking to social media to voice their disgust.

The 57-year-old driver was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and dangerous driving, and has since been released on bail.

In the video, he appears to hit something and the tractor jolts to the shock of onlookers, while there have been reports that the waves caused by the tractor smashed windows and caused flood defences to be breached.

Chloe Mcintosh said on Facebook: “Thank you to the person who drove through Tenbury in a tractor at one million miles per hour. Everyone’s life’s work, gone.”

Emma Jayne Dyke said: “So sorry for everyone. Absolutely awful.”

And Dj O’Toole said the driver should “have the full book thrown at him for this”.

“He should be banned from driving for this extreme version of driving without due care and attention,” he said.

A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said: “I’d like to thank everyone who brought this incident to our attention, and to the local community for their co-operation and support yesterday while we carried our initial enquiries. I understand the upset and anger that the incident caused, and I hope that the arrest we made yesterday evening offers reassurance that we are actively investigating it. Officers will continue to be out and about in Tenbury in the coming days to assist the local community and our partner agencies with recovery efforts following the flooding.”
