The closure is necessary to allow works to repair the collapsed wall to be carried out and due to the likelihood of danger to the public while works are being carried out, a notice published by Herefordshire Council said.
The works are expected to be completed within two months, the notice said, but the closure can remain in force for a maximum period of 18 months if necessary.
An alternative route is in place, with affected traffic diverted via Bodenham Road, Aylestone Hill, Folly Lane, and vice versa.
