This is a reader's letter published in the Hereford Times on November 28.
MY wife and I had occasion recently to attend Hereford County Hospital’s A and E department.
I would like to say that the service we received from the hospital was exemplary. Nurses, doctors and receptionists were kind attentive and thoroughly professional at all times.

Staff were from a variety of backgrounds, but there seemed to be a sense of camaraderie and clear communication amongst staff and patients. Nothing was too much trouble, and tests were carried out efficiently with results following very quickly. Even the food seemed quite appetising!

Yes, there was the perennial problem of waiting in corridors because of ‘bed blocking’, with its knock-on effect of tying up ambulances. I discussed this with staff. But there is no simple answer.
My one bug bear is hospital machine bleeps that are like Chinese water torture depriving patients of “sleep that mends the ravelled sleeve of care”. Surely, addressing this would heal patients quicker, so releasing beds sooner. Despite this I would like to say a big thank-you to Hereford County Hospital.
