This is a reader's letter published in the Hereford Times on November 28.
COUNCILLOR Engel (Talking Point, November 21), is a well-known fan of the ‘gentleman’s game’ but his views on local politics are simply not cricket!
He claims the voters of Herefordshire have spurned national parties in favour of local independents, but as 43 of the county’s 53 councillors belong to national parties, of one stripe or another, this just doesn’t add up.

I am surprised that a cricket enthusiast should have such difficulty with basic arithmetic.
The previous minority administration, of Independents for Herefordshire and Greens was emphatically rejected by the electorate last year.

Letters should not exceed 250 words and local issues take precedence.
The Liberal Democrats are the second largest party on the county council and the only one willing to act as a constructive opposition.
We will work with anyone who is serious about delivering good services and the things local people have told us they want. Sadly, this is something I believe the Independents for Herefordshire and their fellow travellers are unable or unwilling to do.
