FOUR crews of firefighters spent three-and-a-half hours battling a fire at a Hereford industrial estate over the weekend.
Crews from Hereford, Ewyas Harold, Fownhope and Leominster battled the blaze at Wye Valley Reclamation on the Rotherwas Industrial Estate on Saturday (May 3).
Antony Baker, a Hereford Times reader, said: "The Smoke could be seen all over Hereford city and even as far away as Goodrich."
Despite the plumes of smoke the fire was not as serious as first feared.
"There was quite a bit of noise and activity and it looked much worse than it actually was," said Alec Mackie, press office for the fire service.
"Nobody was injured and there was nobody there to be rescued."
A substation did cause some concern when firefighters were putting out the fire.
"There was a small electrical substation in the vicinity so we requested the presence of Central Networks," said Mr Mackie.
"The power was isolated-if this had caught fire we would have had problems."
Firefighters were called at 1.20pm and they left the scene at 4.50pm.
Mr Mackie said the cause of the fire was currently unknown.
