SING OUT - The evening of music, song and poetry organised by local poet, Tony Walton, to raise funds for the Macmillan Renton Appeal takes place tomorrow (Friday) in Aymestrey Village Hall at 8pm. A fantastic range of international music will be performed by artists from the UK, Ireland and the USA. There will be a bar and tickets are £6 (£4 concessions). Call Tony on 01568 770177.
ST ANDREW’S CHURCH RESTORATION WORK APPEAL - The first of the fundraising events, a wild garlic walk and afternoon tea at Gatley Park, by kind permission of Sir Thomas and Lady Dunne, takes place this Sunday. The meeting point is Hall Farm, Leinthall Earles, at 2.30pm and tickets are £5 for adults and £2.50 for children under 10.
CONCERT BY CANN TWINS - The next fundraising event will be a concert in Aymestrey Church on Saturday, May 24, at 7.30pm when internationally renowned identical twin sisters, Claire and Antoinette Cann, play a programme of piano duets to include Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite, Strauss’ Blue Danube Waltz and more. Further fundraising events will take place throughout the year, one of the main ones being a three-day flower festival in Aymestrey Church from Friday, August 29, to Sunday, August 31.
WI - The May meeting will take place in Aymestrey Village Hall next Tuesday, May 13, when Sue Nicholson will tell members of her time in Afghanistan. Sue’s job takes her all over the world setting up schools in under-developed countries and she has spent a lot of time in Afghanistan so her view will be of particular interest. Non-members are more than welcome, and a charge of £3 will be made which will include refreshments. The hostesses will be Hilda Ashdown-Sharpe and Meg Thorpe, and the competition is a flower of the month.The next planned outing is to The Black Country Museum at the end of May.
