HISTORY GROUP - The Byton, Combe, Kinsham and Stapleton History Group will be meeting at the Arkwright Hall in Kinsham on Wednesday, May 14, at 7.30pm. This month’s topic is ‘The Hereford and Gloucester Canal – The Final Five Miles’. Everybody is welcome. Admission is £2 and will include refreshments.

TOUR DE PRESTEIGNE - This year’s annual Tour de Presteigne and Green Wheels weekend is on Saturday, May 17 and Sunday, May 18. There will be shows and events on both days with the street rally starting at 2.30pm on the Sunday. COACH TRIP - The Royal British Legion Club is running its annual coach trip. This year, it is to Barry Island on Bank Holiday Monday, May 26. The cost is £5 for members and £6 for non-members. To book your place, or more information, either call into the British Legion or ring John Crowe on 260317.
CONCERT - The Kington Amateur Dramatic and Operatic Society is performing a concert, ‘Songs from the Shows’, at New Radnor Community Centre this Friday evening at 7.30pm. All proceeds will go to the Friends of St Mary’s Church in New Radnor.
PRESTEIGNE AND BORDERS FLORAL ARTS SOCIETY - The next meeting of the society is on Wednesday, May 14, in the memorial hall at 7.30pm. This month, Shella Holland will be doing a demonstration of flower arranging entitled ‘Big, Bold and Beautiful’. This month’s competition is an arrangement using homemade spheres. There will be bring-and-buy stalls, a raffle of the arrangements and refreshments. Visitors are welcome for £4, and for more details, call 267482.
OPEN DAY - There is an open day weekend and vintage engine show this Saturday and Sunday at the Curlew Centre at Wegnell’s farm from 10am to 5pm both days. Attractions include the riverside walk, the amazing willow maze, produce stalls, games, animals and much more. CAMEO - Norton Cameo is having an outing to the leather and glass museums in the West Midlands (subject to sufficient numbers) on Tuesday, May 20. The fair will be £9 (£8 for members). MUSICAL EVENING - There is a spring musical evening at St Andrew’s Church in Norton on Saturday, May 28, from 7.30pm featuring The Bravo Four, John Games, Glasnant Morgan, and local talented harpist Mena Breeze. SPONSORED WALK - There is a sponsored walk of four-and-a-half miles around Norton Church this Sunday afternoon at 2pm. The minimum sponsorship is £5. Please wear appropriate clothing and footwear.
