A LEOMINSTER school ignored the old adage that children should be seen and not heard and invited youngsters from other local schools to come and make as much noise as possible.
Leominster Infants School asked youngsters from the infant departments of cluster schools in the area to join in a day of Making Sounds.
The day was based around the Maurice Sendak story Where The Wild Things Are and a song written especially for the children by the Leominster school’s music co-ordinator Hilary Lyon.
An additional 190 pupils came to the school and enjoyed workshops with Pedro the drummer, dancer Janine Wyatt and artist Lisa Pendlebury, who worked with all 452 children to create masks.
Stuart and Diane Brain entertained the children with an amazing variety of instruments to bash and blow, while Roger Woolley introduced string instruments and, with Mrs Lyon, demonstrated how to make high and low sounds.
The children created their own instruments in groups to play during the day’s grand finale, The Wild Rumpus.
The Leominster Infants School choir sang Where The Wild Things Are at the Courtyard as part of the Hereford Festival.
