Quella is panting a little more than normal owing to the hot weather but otherwise is doing well. Owing to her mistress’s unforeseen circumstances, Fay has had another two-and-a-half weeks’ holiday but is back out on the pavements enjoying the birds singing and the children going to school. The organisation, Visual Impairment Breconshire, very kindly transported a group of members to the Pontypool Resource Centre recently. After a very warm welcome, a demonstration of all the helpful aids was given and purchases were made. These will hopefully make life a little easier in the kitchen, for instance, by having the right coloured chopping board, a liquid leveller for making drinks and a one-cup kettle to help someone who may suffer with arthritis or rheumatism. For other rooms, there were talking clocks and for the individual, the wrist watch. Tea and cakes were served and much enjoyed. Although there were showers it did not dampen the spirits and hinder the singing on the homeward journey! Once again, the 15th AGM has taken place and we are glad to report that all offices stay unchanged. President, Nell Chillingford, chairman, Betty Jones, vice-chairman, Peter Barber, secretary, Dorothy Hanson, treasurer, Aleen Dixon. As the meeting room was unavailable owing to the recent election, members were taken to the Railway Nurseries’ Three Cocks for tea, cakes and any shopping they may wish to do. Again, a lovely, relaxed afternoon. John Rees with his keyboard also gave everyone a very entertaining afternoon when he played tunes from numerous shows and devised a musical quiz. The club is now struggling for helpers particularly on trips but also in the meetings, and so if there is anyone (male or female) who would like to give a helping hand, we would all be very grateful. The club meetings are held every Thursday between 2pm and 4pm at the community centre. Please call Betty Jones on 01497 820894.
