A HEREFORDSHIRE couple feared missing in China could have been saved by their desire to look at pandas.
The couple, believed to be from Goodrich, are understood to have been visiting a panda sanctuary when the earthquake struck earlier this week.
"I understand they were fairly close to the epicentre of the earthquake," said Paul Keetch, MP for Hereford.
"Essentially, what saved them was they were out and about in the countryside either looking at or trying to find pandas.
"Most of the people who died were in buildings but because they were out in the open they were fairly safe."
The couple were found safe and well with a group of British tourists. They are currently in the Chengdu and it is not known when they will return to Britain.
The Foreign Office said the holidaymakers were on a visit to the Wolong panda reserve in Wenchuan county.
