WE had a lot of business to get through in our May meeting, so our president, Julie Button, and secretary, Rosemary Mayglothing, divided it into two sessions, with our speaker and refreshments in between. We discussed further help for the Cobolt Unit appeal, recycling birthday cards, craft sessions, our outings to Arrow Cottage gardens in June and Aberystwyth in August (we have room for eight more). The county letter, spring council meeting and photographs for the 2010 WI calendar, providing a lunch in September for a National Trust group and our resolutions for the AGM were also discussed.

Halfway through this, our speaker, Gill Rannie, gave a fascinating and frank talk about her unconventional life as lab technician in ‘swinging London’ of the early 1960s, Kibbutz volunteer in Israel, and commune member, among other things. Gwen Sampson thanked her and then Glenys Mills served refreshments.

Members voted with ‘pennies for friendship’ for the winner of the ‘photo of a granny’ competition with Heather Wiggins first and Lyn Hobbs second. The meeting closed with Julie thanking Lyn for her flowers on the table, Irene for her recent coffee and chat and Glenys as hostess.
