WHIST CLUB - The organisers of the Almeley Whist Club, Sandra and Allan Payne, assisted by Anne Preece and Rick Harris, run fortnightly whist drives which raise money for a variety of good causes. Recently they sent a cheque for £300 to the Acorns Children’s Hospice. They hope in future drives to raise money for the Herefordshire Heart Fund, a charity which Almeley has supported for many years. At the last whist drive, prizes were won by Muriel Fenton, Ruth Jenkins, Elsie Harding, Margaret Baker, Sandra Payne, Roger Kerrigan, Michael Handley, Margaret Price and Margery Phillips. The next gathering will be on Tuesday, May 27, at 7.45pm.
GARDENS - The Batch garden and woodland, the home of Mr and Mrs Jeremy Russell, will be open to the public as part of the National Gardens Scheme, on Saturday, June 1 and Saturday, June 8 from 2pm to 5.30pm. Admission is £3.50 and children go free. There will be interesting plants for sale.
QUIZ - The Radnorshire and West Herefordshire Hunt Supporters are holding a quiz in Almeley Village Hall on Saturday, May 31. Teams of four players are invited to enter, and the entrance fee is £4. COFFEE MORNING - Everyone is invited to join in the coffee morning which will be held in the Bells Inn, Almeley, on Saturday, June 7, from 10am to 11.30am.
