A WET weekend at the Hay Festival saw fire crews pumping water from flooded marquees and walkways at the site.
Two fire engines from the town’s station adjacent to the event on Brecon Road were called out at around 12.00pm on Sunday after heavy rain throughout the morning.
Mid and West Wales Fire Service spokesperson Dave Sheppard said: “There was a potential if we hadn’t taken action that health and safety for the site would have been an issue as just getting around was difficult.”
Fire fighters spent four hours diverting water from the site to a nearby culvert while organisers also brought in three water tankers to help out.
Literary fans remained undeterred by the conditions, however, with many wearing plastic ponchos produced especially for the event.
